we get knocked down..

...but we get up again, you ain't never gonna keep us down...

Alas, no happy ending. What will be will be. Well done to West Brom, a simply incredible achievement and they fully deserve it. Who didn't piss themselves laughing when they appointed Bryan Robson late last year? But he gets the last laugh...

Having arrived in Canada we had the bittersweet pleasure of watching the Norwich capitulation at Fulham, with text messages arriving by the truckload from the UK. No tears at the final whistle, in fact the only time I felt like crying was during the oh so wonderful 10 minutes when we were staying up.

So, 4 seasons in the Premiership and 4 relegations. A perfect record. Still, the manner of the latest failing is certainly better than 7 years ago. Goodbye to Wayne (Courtney's favourite) and probably AJ. 'If onlys' are just that, if only. But you can't help wondering what might have been with Tim Cahill and Dean Ashton in the side. 8 months on from Mr Jordan and his courageous stand against agents, the 10% for agents system still survives and Palace are back in Division 2.

Our season? Well, it wasn't quite watching Palace in 37 capitals whilst Courtney reads a book. We managed 10 games in about 8 different countries. And by the end of it Courtney (and family it seems!) was rooting for red and blue as much as the next man. It might seem, especially from recent posts, that we simply spent the whole year watching Crystal Palace. Sadly this wasn't the case... Still, it's provided a fantastic sub plot to the whole backpacker saga. Even if there is no happy ending... Such is life, such is Palace..

Crystal Palace. I wouldn't swap them for any other team. You say that you love me....

Hi there you two, I love all the pictures...happy traveling and I look forward to read on more on your blog!

It's a shame after so many good posts about the fate of your football team that you have to use such a naff set of lyrics to summarise how you feel. Let's hope now that you have no football to write about, we get to enjoy your musings on England v Bangladesh, starting next week...

Anyway, at least we now have a mutually interesting football match to go to next season (now that was close....) Juanita says we can take our new born daughter and she can decide which team she'd choose to support - her dad's team, or her local team....

Look forward to seeing you soon.

Bad luck Palace, you went down with fight and spirit. For us (Southampton) there was precious little of that over the season as a whole, and even the official web site uses a curious apt metaphor of a sick animal being put out of its misery. We can only hope that there is a strong young puppy waiting to take its place. And can we persuade the old dog to stay on and teach us some new tricks? Can a metaphor be stretched any thinner?

Best wishes to you Court and Pete, enjoy the rest of your travels.

.....It is now!!

Pete, What a relegation battle! Very very unlucky for Palace I must say, and for Norwich to lose 6-0 when it was in their own hands is just poor! I must say thee will be some transfer action at the end of the season. Looks like Ashton, Johnson, Routledge and Huckerby will be a few peoples shopping list as they proved they can play in the top league. Looks like you are having such an amazing time together. Be great to see you soon. Mark & Heidi x (ps. sorry for talking football non-stop football Courtney)
